Lee knew that his health would fail him soon and he didn't want his wife Alie to be responsible
for these treasure boxes.
Email from Lee.
You know I've always been protective of , the Dolcett story featuring her that had so many depiction's of her it was too descriptive...You also probably know that there was one single Dolcett of her hanging in a garage that was really close.
Ali even
wrote one story herself. It didn't get much attention except from those
who were fans of Lee.

He contacted his friend Merle and asked if he would be the "keeper" of the archives.
Merle said that he would accept the responsibility for a short time as his health was also
beginning to depreciate.
A couple of years went by when Merle decided that it was time to pass the archives on again to
someone from the "Wild Bunch" who would keep the boxes of gems safe.
Around the year 2001 (as best as we can tell) Merle sent the boxes to his buddy JoMac
who put them in storage.
He understood the value they had but he had no further interest in them.
The years passed on.
In 2004 for personal reasons Joe needed to pass the boxes of hand draw Dolcett's and material
from the other artists on to someone. But he didn't know who.
Most of the older members of this closed circle had either passed on or were no longer in contact
with him.
